3 Reasons Why Japan Should Send Troops to Afghanistan
Japan's PM Fukuda say that Japan is considering sending its first troops to Afghanistan on a reconstruction mission.
Why?
1. Japan's PM realizes that the pacifist constitution limits the countries military activities and Japan does not have troops among the international forces helpfing Afghanistan. Still the PM says, "My attitude is that we should do what we can do." Reconstruction help is doable.
2. Japan is a major financial power on the global stage. The country should have a greater presence in international security affairs.
3. Japan needs to reverse the huge step backward that Tokyo took when the government ordered two naval ships back from the Indian Ocean that had been there doing refueling.
Japanese diplomats claim they get no respect.
Respect doesn't always come from doing the right thing…though I think Japan needs to be more active in global peace and this is one way…respect comes from having convictions and acting upon them regardless of whether people agree or not.
