#24 The Japan-related Web. Part 3: Why it Matters

Look on any website about internet marketing for tips on building traffic and you will see this among the advice: "Comment on other sites."

It is simple, powerful and effective. Comment on other sites. But when you look at sites and projects on the J-web all too often they are lacking comments and contributors. This your opportunity! Be selfish! Comment on their sites and receive links back to yours. You will boost your traffic and if they have "no follow" disabled you will get a backlink that will help your search engine ranking as well.

Besides comments on blogs and news-sites, forums are a great place to leave comments.

How many of you bloggers post on forums? I bet not many of you. But forums generally allow you to have a signature with links to your website (traffic!).

Will any comment do? No. No one follows a spammer's links, so do not spam. Your comment should add something meaningful. Then readers will want to follow your link and you will really benefit.
