2 Easiest Yet Preventable Ways to Get Fat

fatamericans.jpgThere are lots of ways to get fat…eating like a pig will do it. For me, just looking at menus or walking past a restaurant will do it. The food doesn’t even need to pass through my mouth. It jumps straight to my love handles.

Japanese researchers have determined the two quickest ways to get fat that with relatively simple life style changes could be avoided.

1. Gobbling down food will do it.

2. Eating until you are full will do it.

“The combination of the two eating behaviors had a supra-additive effect on being overweight,” the study reported in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).

Japanese researchers said these two patterns of behavior, fast and cheap food are widely to blame for the obesity pandemic.

Those who ate until full took in more calories than those who gorged from time to time.

Some causes for eating quickly -

1.  fewer families eating together,

2.  more people eating while distracted (for example, while watching television),

3.  eating ‘fast food’ while on the go

The Japanese say ‘hara hachi-funme.‘ That is, eat until your belly is 80% full. Hmm…perhaps that’s why Japanese can keep their figures while we Americans have to be pried away from fast food joints.
