15-year-old Gets 16 Years for Dual Murder
A 15-year-old kid bludgeoned and stabbed his father to death and then turned on his mother and did the same thing to her with the knife.
It is the stiffest penaly ever dished out to a kid.
The reason – "The defendant has not yet engaged in deep self-reflection about the incident," the ruling said. "In order to make him aware of his responsibility, there is a need to hand down a penalty that matches the gravity of the act."
If the boy had done this crime five years sooner, a jail term would NOT have been considered.
The law was changed in 2001 to allow 14-year-olds, down from 16-years-old, to face criminal penalties.
16 years the now 17-year-old will spend in jail.
Is that all? Still seems way too lenient to me.
