14 Reasons Why Toyota will Surpass GM Next Year

Once a week I see news, blurbs, pitches, propaganda on how Toyota Motor Corp. will pass up General Motors Corp as the Number 1 car maker in the world.

But just why will Toyota pass up GM and how close are they?

1.  GM sold 9.17 million cars last year but won't announce how many they plan to sell this year….so, we wait.

2.  Toyota thinks it will sell 8.85 million cars this year…and 9.8 million next year. If Toyota meets it goal, and it usually does, and GM hasn't grown or doesn't grow, next year will be when Toyota takes the number one spot.Toyota.jpg

3.  Last year Toyota made $11.8 billion in profit and expects to make $13.4 billion this year.

4.  GM LOST $10.6 billion last year and $3 billion in the first nine months of this year.

5.  10 years ago, GM had 33% market share in the US and Toyota had 8%. Today – GM is 24% and Toyota is 15%

6.  Toyota cars took eight of 19 categories in J.D. Power and Associate dependability.

7.  Toyota's Lexus is the top brand name plate for 12 years in a row.

8.  Toyota doesn't care if it surpasses GM…Toyota cares about quality. Toyota wants to be "number one with the customer."

9.  GM is running scared, restructuring.

10. Toyota is building plants in Russia, Thailand, Texas, China, …

11. Toyota is buying up GM's old partners – Fuji Heavy Industries, Isuzo Motors, Ltd.

12. Toyota has never resorted to layoffs… Toyota's workers love Toyota.

13. GM negotiates severance packages, early retirements and buyouts as I write this.

14. Toyota is number one in customer loyalty – more people come back to buy a Toyota than return to buy any other product that does anything.

Toyota will take over the number one spot, not because they want to, but because they deserve it.
