Less Miles and Miles and Mile and Miles to the Gallon
The Department of Energy has revised its fuel ratings system to, hopefully, reflect the actual mileage that cars get.
It seems cars do NOT go quite as far on a tank of gas as the sticker says. Everybody does not drive straight on a downhill incline with the a strong tailwind at 35 mph.
Is anybody surprised by this?
Has a car ever gotten the gas mileage the sticker said it would, on the highway, in the city?
Definitely not in my lifetime and 1,000,000 plus miles of driving.![]()
The hybrids are the said to be taking the biggest hit.
Toyota Prius gets 16% less mileage than thought….46 mpg.
Honda Civic Hybrid gets 16% less than thought….42 mpg.
Toyota Camry Hybrid gets 13% less ….34 mpg.
Ford Escape Hybrid gets 12% less…30 mpg.
To be sure all the gas guzzlers will be happy to point out that Japanese cars do not go as far as has been reported.
The cars get ONLY 20-30% better gas mileage instead of 50%.
My son commutes to college in his regular 2006 Honda Civic and gets 33-35 mpg.
Japanese cars are still much more efficient than its American automobile counterparts.
What kind of mileage does the car in your garage get?
