Miss India World 2009 – Pooja Chopra

India’s entry at the Miss World 2009 pageant is Pooja Chopra.

Pooja, 24 years, hails from the city of Pune. According to reports, she was raised by her mother Neera Chopra in the midst of a lot of complexity since her father left them when she was young.

Pooja’s mother – Neera Chopra – recalls the time when she was eight months pregnant for Pooja and her husband brought a woman to their house and proclaimed his desire to marry that girl.

When Pooja was born, there was nobody to visit her and to see the child. Her mother Neera Chopra was asked to either dump her baby or divorce her husband; all because Pooja was a girl. She chose to leave with Pooja and her elder daughter Shubhra.

Many years later, she is now India’s Beauty Queen and will be competing for  the Miss World 2009 pageant to be held in South Africa in December 2009.
