Toyota’s New Plug-in Hybrid Hits the Highways

Toyota Motor Corp. has received authorization, the first of its kind, for its new plug-in hybrid.

The car will be tested on public roads in Japan.

The car has a greater battery capacity and can be recharged through household outlets.

And….it has a very long cord.

The car runs longer on electricty-only mode, emits less carbon dioxide and saves on gasoline costs.plug-in.hybrid.jpg

If the car is recharged at night, there are also lower nightime

power charges.

The challenge now is to boost the crusing range.

Eight new vehicles, Prius look-alikes, will hit the road to give Toyota the feedback it needs.

I wonder, does that long cord have a super spring rewinder?
