Toyota Motor Corp Will Export ist Subcompact to Europe

Toyota Motor Corp will start exporting the ist subcompact to Europe and halt imports of the Avenis midsize car from the U.K. to Japan in 2008.

The move is designed to take advantage of the euro's strength against the yen.

The ist is sold under the Scion brand in the United States.

Toyota hopes to export some 15,000 ists to Europe starting in October, 2008 – gasoline- and diesel-engine types.

The European made Toyota Avensis sold 18,000 units in 2004, but less than one-third that in the first half of this year.

As long as the Euro is strong, it makes good sense for Toyota to export more and  import less. Nissan Motors is doing the same by shifting production of the Dualis SUV from the U.K. to Japan.

Not only can Japan make good cars…they can do good business as well. No?
