Toyota Motor Corp. Settles Sexual Harassment Suit
While Toyota Motor Corp. was making great gains in chasing down GM and taking over as the number one car maker in the world, a secretary had her mind set on getting her hands in the pie.
Kobayashi Sayaka accused Otaka Hideaki of sexual harassment and hoped to collect as much as $190 million!
Otaka was transferred to Tokyo affiliate Daihatsu Motor co. and replaced by Jim Press, the first American president of Japanese car maker’s US operations.
The $190 million was divvied up as $40 million loss to her career and $150 million in punitive damages. Just how much was she making at Toyota?
In any event, they came to terms…which remain confidential.
Surely, the boneheaded lawyers are the ones who are the most uhappy. They likely only raked in millions instead of tens of millions.
Somebody should ‘shoot all the lawyers.’
