Toyota, Honda and Mazda Resume Production
GM and Ford still would like to know where the earthquake button is, perhaps.
An 'act of God' is the only thing that, so far, has been able to slow down production of Toyota Motors, Mazda Motor Co, and Honda Motor Co. prodution.
Riken Corps is a major piston ring maker for the three car makers.
The parts maker was shut down by the earthquake in Kashiwazaki, Niigata on July 16th. Earthquakes with 6.8 magnitude will do that.![]()
Riken restarted production on Monday…partially…and with
some delay.
As a result, Toyota will restart 20 of its 31 auto assembly lines. So far, Toyota has an output loss of 46,000 vehicles. (55,000 according to Nikkei.)
Mazda has a 4,500 output loss but will restart operations at one of two of its factories in Japan.
Honda will start up to plants and a motorcycle factory.
So….are major disasters the only way to stop Toyota from overtaking GM?
