Toyota was going to roll out cars in Mississippi in 2010. Now it is 2011 or even later.

Toyota was going to manufacture the Highlander SUV but has decided instead to make its hotselling Prius.

“Toyota has been reviewing its capital investment plans based on its latest forecast that group operating profit will plunge 74% for the year ending March 31.”

The automaker was planning on spending $1.3 billion and produce 150,000 units a year in MS, not to mention the jobs it would create.

Now, Mississippians and others can wonder if Toyota will be there at all.

A generation ago, who’d a thought so many in the US would depend on what Toyota was planning to do.
