Toyota Motor Corp. President Katsuaki Watanabe announced today that the company expects to meet 2007 global vehicle sales targets despite sluggish demand in Japan and the United States.

The announcement was made at a press conference to launch Toyota's new Corolla Rumion.

Sales are good enough in:

The Middle East

Southeast Asia

to offset tougher competition in the world's two biggest car markets.

Domestic sales will hit 1.65 million, 700K less than the initial projection.

The United States will likely achieve its target said Toyota's top dog.

Toyota will be the new global top seller by the end of this year.

GM will be playing catch up.
