Toyota 4.72 – GM 4.68
At the halfway point, Toyota Motors still leads General Motors in sales for the year.
GM made up some of the difference in car sales that it lost to Toyota in the first quarter by outselling the Japanese carmaker – 2.41 million cars to 2.37 million.
Toyota beat GM in the first quarter 2.35 million to 2.27 million.
Thus, Toyota retains the lead for the first six months 4.72 million to 4.68 million.
General Motors had growth in sales of 0.4% on the strength of good business in Latin America and Asia and other emerging markets.
Toyota said its sales grew 7%.
Production is what matters come year's
end.
But, even that won't matter when Toyota dethrones GM as top dog, by out producing, out selling AND out earning the 76-year old king of the junk pile.
Last year GM and affiliates produce 9.18 million cars….Toyota produced 9 million.
At the end of 2007, Toyota will be king.
