The Top10 things to see in and around Kuala Lumpur
One of my friends e-mailed me a while ago. She was going to visit Malaysia and asked for the top-tourist spots around Kuala Lumpur. Her two-month travel had already taken her through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia, but I didn’t know that. Ignorant of her die-hard backpacking history, I wrote an elaborate mail with directions so detailed she must’ve thought I took her for an idiot.
So, to all others tagged with the travel bug, I will avoid my earlier mistake and just list the Top10 Things To See In and Around Kuala Lumpur. I trust you can get there by yourself.
- Petronas Twin Towers > duh!
- KL Railway Station > this beautiful old building brings the past back to live
- Petaling Street > Kl’s Chinatown. Be prepared to bargain! If they smell you’re foreign, they will charge about 5 times higher…
- Central Market > or ‘Pasar Seni’. Cozy, colourful, very local. Best souvenirs be bought here
- KLCC Shopping Mall > one of the biggest and fanciest malls in town
- Bukit Bintang > where the city comes to life after dark
- KL Tower > just for the fun of having dinner at height of 276 meter
- The Blue Mosk > the largest mosque in the country
- Merdeka Square > the ‘freedom’ square, where Malaysian independence was declared in 1957
- Kuala Lumpure Lake Gardens, Orchid Garden, Bird Park & Butterfly Park > if you crave some nature
