The Japanese God
At my other blog, TheBizOfKnowledge, I am writing a series, Lessons from the Good Book.
The second post there was – Lessons from the Good Book – In the Beginning.
I believe in a Creator. It affects my worldview, the value I place on our home, Earth, and how I live my life and interact with people.
The Japanese do not believe in a Creator.
I can remember teaching some of my Japanese students the Japanese word for Creator. There are two of them which mean the same thing - 作り主、創造者.
When you ask a Japanese about the beginning, many of them will respond with a look of wonder, as in "Why consider such things? Does it matter?"
When pressed, they will say something along the lines "バン!" as in the big bang.
In any event, God with a little 'g' or a big 'G' does not play any part in the average Japanese person's daily life.
It's just not something they think about.
