Private Hotline Receives 60,000 Reports of Harmful Internet Sites
The headline reads like something that might be going on in China…
Nope…it’s Japan.
Japan’s National Police Agency reported that a private hotline that was setup this time last year has received 60,000 reports of ‘harmful information’ on the Internet – obscene images and so on.
That’s it?
Some sites might have 60,000 pictures of their own!
In 16% of the cases the reports were of obscene images, child porn images and illegally placed information.![]()
Of those cases, nearly 70% were referred to police.
Almost 5% were messages offering to murder people or
commit suicide together.
The hotline asked Internet service providers to delete info in 5,600 cases resulting in 4,582 having been sent to cyber trash.
In an arena where people are free to do anything, some people will do/post/say anything.
Still, it beats being restricted on what I can and cannot say.
Do you agree?
