Nissan Introduces Pino to Appeal to Cute Niche
Nissan’s Pino is just 11 feet (3.4 meters) long, has star stamped upholstery, a hook for a handbag and a choice of milk tea beige or pink exterior.
It’s cute! And the target is young girls.
Nissan also introduced a merchandise line – pink bear-shaped cushions, seat covers with hearts, CD cases with fat red lips and the kicker…a colorful cover for a tissue box.
The Pino is made by Suzuki but, under an agreement with Suzuki, is packaged differently by Nissan….fancier seat fabric, distinct front design, snowflake hubcaps…cute, cute, cute…yuck!![]()
But then, I am not the target buyer….20 year old women in Japan.
The Pino starts at $8,600 compared to the Suzuki Alto which starts at $6,500.
Successful? Nissan had 5,500 orders for the Pino in its first month of sales, more than double the target of 2,500 a month.
Hmmm…would you buy a Pink car that you could put in your pocket instead of in the garage?
