Merry Christmas from Japan – Electric Eel Powers Christmas Lights

Posted by Bill Belew on December 3rd, 2007 in asia | Comments Off

An electric eel is giving the power to light Christmas lights on a tree at the Aqua Toto Gifu aquarium.

Un-creatively named the 'eel Christmas tree' Sparky is likely to be happy to not be on somebody's bowl of rice, yet. Unagi don is quite popular year round.

Dating couples find the attraction popular. They don't get much charge out of one another we might suppose.

There is a copper wire in the tank. Each time the eel touches it, a nearby tree

Eels can't see where they are going so they use the shock to protect themselves.

Still, you can find them in sushi and on other Christmas plates.

Do you like eel?
