Mazda Motor Corp says their profits are up 29% over July-September of last year.

Sales are up on its small cars in North America and other overseas markets.

The Japanese affiliate of one of America's Big Three – Ford Motor Co had a net profit of Y26.6 billion ($230 millionish).

The Mazda group operating profit was up 1.5% to Y40.8 billion ($340 million).

The Mazda3 is selling well in Canada, Australia and Israel.

Mazda still expects to make Y85 billion and a group profit of Y160 billion for the fiscal year ending next March.

Sales – Y3.3 trillion ($29 billion).

And Ford accountants will go hmmmm….

Why can Japanese carmakers make money but their American counterparts cannot?
