Jr. High School Sues Policeman for 5.6 Million Yen
A junior high school girl is suing the Saga Prefecture (state) for 5.6 million yen ($45,000) for damages.
The girl says she developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the policeman treated her too aggressively.
On her way home from a calligraphy class, the officer, in plain clothes, stopped her and asked her about the bicycle she was riding – thinking it had been stolen.![]()
When the officer started shouting at her, she fled but was chased down by the officer in his car.
Now, the girl is afraid to go out and has been missing school.
My question is – how does a 15 year old girl know about law suits and stress disorders?
Another question – where did this figure 5.6 million yen come from?
Japanese lawyers are not the same as the sleazeball counterparts that you come across here in the states. Still, somebody is trying to make money here and it is not the little girl.
Japanese policemen do/can have a tendency to be overly agressive. Is this one of those cases?
What do you think?
