Japanese Teachers Need/Get Morality Manual

Last school year (2006), a record 18 teachers were canned.

So far this school year 13 others have been dismissed for various reasons.

Teachers ran into trouble over:

1. sex

2. money

3. corporal punishment

At a cost of Y600,000, some 55,000 copies of a 4-paged A4-sized ‘morality manual’ were printed up and will be distributed to Hokkaido’s teachers and other employees.

Elementary through high school and the prefectural board of education workers will all get copies.

Info on past incidents and the legal penalties are included in the manual.

Last year:

14 teachers were punished for sex shames

16 were disciplined over corporal punishment

2 were penalized for money problems.

One example in Hokkaido’s capital city of Sapporo, an elementary vice principal was arrested for – child prostitution.

These things are best prevented, not corrected.

The manual may be a bit late, eh?

What do you think?
