The love doll. I am not sure the concept was created in Japan, but like many things Japan took an idea and was able to run with it, improve it, if you are in to that kind of thing.
Now they have a mini-love doll. Knee high, apple-spotted cheeks and big black button eyes, green or red hair. When you cuddle the little people, they talk back.
Japan’s birthrate has been falling. There aren’t enough kids to go around for the one in four that are over 60 to be grandparenty to.
Toy makers in Japan’s $6.3 billion toy industry are happy to oblige with Purimpueru made by Bandai. Catering to the elderly helps offset declines of 10% in sales over the past five years because of less kids.
Purimpueru can learn five songs and master 380 words in a year if it is loved.
