Global Corolla Output Upped – Toyota

Toyota Motor Corp. will manufacture 1.5 million Corolla sedans and wagons globally next year….up 200,000 from this year…and two times its rivals…VW's AG's Golf compact car.

South Africa and China are big targets.

Making more will also help bring/keep the price down.

Toyota will use a Prius plant in Japan to roll out 50,000 Corolla sedans for Europe.

It will cost the car maker about Y5 billion to set up a new parts assembly line there.

In South Africa Corolla capacity was increased from 130,000 to 220,000 with Europe in mind.

In China a new factory capable of 200,000 units will open in May next year.corolla.civic.golf.jpg

VW's Golf and Honda Motor Co's Civic are the Corolla's biggest competitors …yet only sell half (700,000 each) of Toyota's new target of 1.5 million.

My older son has a Corolla, the younger a Civic.

What do you drive?
