Cell Phone Rules to Protect Children Wanted
Japan’s Educational Rebuilding Council is calling for measures to protect minors from using cell phones to get in trouble on the Internet…particularly from being solicited on dating services.
Last year, Japan cracked down on 1,915 cases involving dating services on the Web.
Of those, 1,387 involved child prostitution, child pornography, confinement and violence.
Of those, 1,153 were under 18.
Of those 1,153, 96.6% had accessed dating services via Web sites on their cell
phones.
Japanese cell phones have filtering functions but only 30% of primary to high school students use the function.
So…Japan’s government has to step in and tell the parents to be parents.
96% of Japanese high schoolers use cell phones.
57% of middle schoolers use them.
31% of primary schoolers have a cell phone.
Nearly all of those who have cell phones, 99, 97 and 86% respectively access the Web with their cell phones.
Isn’t it time for parents to be parents?
Come on!
