As America votes, Asia keeps her fingers crossed.
As America’s presidential elections draws closer to its end, and America awaits the revelation of its new leader…Asia keeps her fingers crossed and roots for Barack Obama.Yes, Asia joins Eva Longoria, Oprah Winfrey as well as the rest of Hollywood in their support for Mr. Obama.
Controversial as it may sound, Asia would love to hear America introduce her new president as ‘President Barack Obama’. Why? Well because like it or not we recognise that America is a powerhouse in its own right and that her each and every word speaks like thunder throughout the world – from business to agriculture, from fashion to education, America has its say. The world hears every world of it but whether or not they choose to listen to it, now that is a separate matter of its own.
America has had a lot to say lately, especially under the regime of President George Bush. America spoke loud and some critics would say they forced their ideas down the throats of others with treats of war and arms. A nature that was never synonymous with the great America we all knew but is now what they have become infamous for.
The less tolerant and more violent of the world retaliated through a plague of terrorism, citing the acts to be the faults of America and those who agreed with her. They justified their acts as punishments for an arrogance that has got out of hand and needed to be tamed.
Either way, no one benefited from it. America lost and so did the rest of us. America is in not so many words a vessel that drives the future, now it just needs the right driver to steer it.
Asia supports Obama because we feel he doesn’t just bring promises of change…he is change – never before has America had a non-white president and that is surprising for a country that boasts racial unity and equality. Voting him would be symbolic of change itself, a promise for the better.
The people are the country and after the series of internal rows, we think it’s time to return that country to her people. Asia believes Barack Obama as President of the United States of America will return the voice of America to her people.
So as America votes, Asia sits patiently in hope that the next time America speaks, it will be her people in the voice of Obama.
