The oldest business around is, well, still around.

There are at least 10 red light districts in the Kansai area near Osaka.

1. Tobita (80-90 shops)japanese prostitute era.jpg

2. Matsushima Shinchi (70 Shops)

3. Imazato Shinchi (30 shops)

4. Kannami Shinchi (30-40 shops)

5. Shintaizan Shinchi (30 shops)

6. Gojo Rakuen (15 shops)

7. Ikoma City (10 shops)

8. Takii Shinchi (10 shops)

9. Tenno Shinchi (5 shops)

According to a survey by a Japanese weekly (I wonder if the guy’s wife knew he had this assignment) rates in the hottest location – Tobita – begin at 11,000 yen ($90) for 15 minutes, 16,000 ($150) for 20 minutes and 22,000 ($200) for 30 minutes.

Discounts can be negotiated for older girls and when business is slow, the article says.

The reasons are simple – men, especially Japanese men, will pay for sex and women are willing to sell themselves.

The girl’s cut is 60% of the charge. Simple economics – 10 ‘performances’ in a day will clear 100,000 yen ($900).

That’s not bad for 5 hours work.

What do you think?
