6 Markets Where Toyota Sales are Growing
Toyota Motor Corp. is selling less cars in the U.S. During the last three months of 2007, sales were in North America were down 1% to 756,000 units despite the fact that the Prius is still selling well. Sales in January in the U.S. were down 2.3% from last year.
Still, Toyota boosted its profit by 7.5% in the last quarter of '07 over the previous year.
The secret – America is not the only place in the world that buys Toyota cars.
In the first three quarters of this fiscal year (Japan's fiscal year begins April 1) North American sales accounted for 44% of Toyota's operating income. In '06 it was 57%.
So, how does Toyota continue to post profits?
China, Russia, Asia, Central and South America, Africa, Oceania all saw increased sales from Apr-Dec of last year.
Toyota also increased production capacity in Thailand and Indonesia allowing for a greater profit margin.
Toyota's forecast for this fiscal year –
1. 8.93 million vehicles sold
2. Y25.5 trillion ($242 billion) in revenue
3. Y2.3 trillion ($23 billion) in operating income
4. Y1.7 trillion ($16 billion) in net profits.
