Marian Hinnant – Why She Lied

marianhinnant.jpgJapanese do not think it is good form to always tell the truth. It is, they think, better to tell you what you want to hear. Frustrating indeed. But it is what it is.

Marian Hinnant lied.

Marian Hinnant told the judge she had to go to her father’s funeral. She really went to a horse race.

I teach college online. The nine weeks I have my students online are some of the most precarious my students ever go through.

People die, get sued, lose their jobs, get thrown out of the house, come down with deathly diseases, have babies, one lost her best friend to a drive by shooting.

So, why did Marian Hinnant lie? Selfishness? Cowardly?

From juror to in need of a lawyer herself, Marian Hinnant’s lawyer says, “She apologizes to the court. In fact, her father did not die. The story about her father was just one that popped into her head.”

Not only is she a liar, she’s a bad liar.

Hinnant tried to speak on her own behalf with an, “incoherent and completely baffling monologue about her former employers in the horse-racing industry in Kentucky. She mentioned drugs, wiretaps and horse racing but made little sense.”

It led the judge to conclude, “I’m convinced you were not able to deliberate.”

Japanese will lie to ‘save face.’ Theirs and their listeners. They don’t want to see their listeners handle the truth.

Marian Hinnant cared about nothing but herself, and lost plenty of face in the process.
