Howard-Unruh

He was never sent for trial but people say that Howard Unruh walked on Camden’s 32nd Street on September 6, 1949, targeting many business owners and firing at many people,  including children.

The weapon used by Howard Unruh was a German  Lugar pistol. The victim who he killed last was 2 year old Tommy Hamilton, who was just looking out of  the window. One other child was killed who was just getting a haircut. Surprisingly he never went to trial,  Howard Unruh was as many say,  the first mass murderer in the United States.

His death was at Providence Nursing Home in Trenton at 3:35 p.m on the 19th of October after a long illness.

I’ll bet a lot of people never heard of Howard Unruh before. I
was one of them. I’m 64, and I never heard of Howard Unruh until
about 6 months ago, when I was doing a google search of mass
murderers. I found this guy, who on Sep. 6, 1949, had gone out
with a .38 luger and shot and killed 13 people and wounded another 3. He has been called the 1st of the lone-gunman mass
murderers in America. He had been a World War 11 veteran, having
experienced quite a bit of combat, and considered a fine soldier.
He returned home with PTSD, then called battle fatigue. He also
had probably already been a paranoid schizophrenic, which he was
diagnosed as after his shooting spree. Howard was always a loner, and after he returned home from World War 11, he soon became unemployed, while his mother, whom he lived with, worked
and supported the two. Howie used to walk down the street with
his bible and his pants tucked in his combat boots, which often
caused people to gossip about him. Young kids in the neighborhood would mock his strange behavior, and it was this
mocking and the feeling that people were talking about him behind
his back that caused old Howie to go out and commit his mass
murder. He had prepared a hit list of people over the 2 years
he had been planning this, and he got most of them plus a few
innocent bystanders. He then went home, was surrounded by the
police, surrendered, and was placed in a mental institution for
the next 60 years, where he would die on Oct. 19, 2009. There
isn’t a whole lot said of what he did those 60 years in the nut
house, other than to say he read, watched TV, listened to radio,
played cards, and slept and ate. It doesn’t say if he ever had
any close friends, which I doubt because he had always been a
loner. So, old Howie, wherever you are, catch you on the late
    show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
