The anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas, which occurred on October 12, 1492, is celebrated as Columbus Day in America and the world over.

Columbus Day first became a certified state holiday in Colorado in 1905, and became a federal holiday in 1934. However, people have celebrated Columbus’ trip since the colonial era.
Columbus, an Italian explorer sailing under the Spanish flag, led four voyages to the New World, but never completed his original ambition which was to find a western ocean route to Asia – but instead found America.
