Ultracompact Toyota iQ Gets 8,000 Orders in First Month on the Market

Toyota Motors ultracompact Toyota iQ got 8,000 orders in the first month on the market, more than three times what Toyota had hoped for.

The iQ is 40cm (1.3′) shorter than other minicars. The car navigates small streets in Japan well, and gets good fuel economy.

More than half of the orders were placed by people 50 or older. Toyota thought that just one in four of the old guys would be interested.

Seven in 10 orders were placed by men. One in five orders were placed by people turning in their subcompact Vitz.

Let’s see, Toyota marketers couldn’t predict how many people were going to buy the thing or even who was in the market to buy the iQ.

But, the iQ is selling and nobody cares. Go figure.

I’ll gladly add my name to that list of buyers once it is sold in the USA.

It’s getting better and better at Toyota. They just announced the plug-in Toyota FT-EV based on the iQ.
