Scientists Call for Ethics Rules for Robots

Submitted by Bill Belew on Tuesday, 23 December 2008No Comment

Robots have been on my mind.

A couple of days I wrote about robots in Japan performing a synchronized dance routine.

These robots went on sale last year and I listed up 12+ Reasons to buy the i-Sobot. A little bit before that there was Motoman the Robot Cook,

who is performing just one of many things robots in Japan can do. Here are 20 more things robots in Japan can do.

A British scientist is calling for immediate introduction of robot ethics guidelines. Reason is concern for their (the robots) lack of human responsibility when caring for:

1. elderly

2. children

The call for the ethics guidelines was made in the US journal Science. The prof making the call is a professor of artificial intelligence and robotics.

So, um, who’s going to teach the professor his ethics?

At any rate, while we are teaching the mechanical dudes right from wrong can we also teach them good music sense, too?

Remember the Violin Playing Robot made by Toyota.
