A Brief History Behind Skylar Deleon and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Posted by Bill Belew on October 7th, 2008 in Japan | 11 Comments

Skylar Deleon was a child actor (14-16-years old) from 1993-1995 when he starred appeared in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series.

The MMPR was a live-action TV series in America that grew out of the Japanaese Super Sentai franchise – Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger.

The series changed its cast and plot every year from 1996, giving birth to the Power Rangers franchise, and continues to this day.

I remember, being in Japan at the time, watching my kids who were elementary age playing power rangers or whatever the name was that year. As an adult, I had a hard time distinguishing the years.mightymorphinpowerrangers.jpg

Mighty Morphin Rangers took place in the fictional town of Angel Grove, CA.

The enemy was an evil witch, Rita Repulsa, who came to earth via an extraterrestrial container.

Five teenagers were found by the robot Alpha 5 sent by Zordon who had captured Rita Repulsa…and the story goes on…eventually evolving into the mini-series Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers.

….

Then one day, one of the power rangers grew up and under the influence of the evil witch Rita, he became overcome with greed and decided to kill for gain. (Defense plan for Skylar Deleon maybe?) Not crazy, just bewitched.

The real question – Who will come to rescue the planet now?

I’ve got to set you straight, because you’re the worst of them all. You even say he “starred” in the show and give dates. None of this is true. Deleon appeared on the show in a non-speaking, extra role once. He wasn’t a Power Ranger, he wasn’t Zedd or Goldar, hell, he wasn’t even Bulk or Skull. Just a random extra that CNN misled you into believing was a Power Ranger with the power of quotes. That’s why the headline is ‘Power Ranger’ faces death penalty, instead of Power Ranger faces death penalty, because it’s not true. When they’re just “quoting” something, they can rearrange the headline at will, and just hope that rubes like you won’t even take the 3 or 4 seconds it takes to look up a name on Google.

Deleon did not star in MMPR, and he certainly was not one of the Rangers; rather, he was an uncredited extra in a couple of episodes. To verify, check the wikipedia entry for MMPR — there is no mention on him.

My guess is the media is “enhancing” Deleon’s relationship to the series to sensationalize the story. Will probably become another Urban Legend.

I’m curious why many news outlets and blogs are reporting Skylar Deleon to have ’starred’ in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, when IMDB, Wikipedia, TV.com all suggest he was in a single episode with few, if any, lines. Can someone clarify?

well I was shock to hear that my favorite childhood show had a murderer on the show, thanx for letting me know that he was just an extra cause as you already know the news said he stared in it.
