Sapporo Beer Labels Beer with Carbon Footprint

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 15 September 2008No Comment

Sapporo Breweries estimates that when grain output, fertilizers, transportation and the production and recycling of the aluminum can itself are taken into account one 350 milliliter can of Black Label beer represents 161 grams of carbon emission.

Wow! You can now get drunk and and slobber about global warming at the same time.

“Well, I may be skunk as a drunk, but I’m not planeting the destroy.”

A marketing ploy or environmentally friendly policy?

Sapporo Breweries wants to grab all the attention it can in Japan’s saturated beer market, while the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry figures out how to push a carbon footprinting system.

Japan’s three largest breweries saw an 8.8% drop in sales. #4 Suntory posted 26% rise.

“We’re number 4! We’re number 4!”

What next? A surgeon general warning -

“Warning. Living is causing global warming.”
