about 700 billion yen a year because of spam.

The survey by the Nippon Information Communications Association asked companies across all industries, about the time and money they spent deleting and blocking spam.
The time wasted by companies, which could have been otherwise used contributing to the nation's gross domestic product, equaled a value of about $6 billion.
