The key ingredient – longevity. Capability is a given.
There is a high turnover of teachers in the country. Young folks come on a working holiday visa stay for 6 months to a year, maybe two. Others come on one of the government sponsored programs and stay for a year.
A language school secures a working visa for a new instructor who comes for a year, maybe two.
These are the usual patterns.
Stay longer than your initial commitment and you will become a senior instructor pretty quickly.
Of course, even Japanese management can recognize incompetence. Showing up is half the battle. Staying long is another one-fourth. Being good is the last element.
