#8 The Japan-related Web. Part 1: What it is

Living in Japan has its difficulties. Luckily we have sites to instruct and educate us.

What educational sites are out there? Which ones are your favourites? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Today we will split Japan-related educational sites into three (broad) types:

1. sites that give Japanese language instruction,

2. sites with general information about Japan,

3. sites that are guides to life in Japan.

Did I miss anything?

Japanese language instruction could branch off into areas like “proper use of keigo,” scientific/medical Japanese, or Japanese for business.

“Guides to living in Japan” is even broader. Currently online there are survival guides for exchange students, international students, language teachers (J.E.T. comes to mind) and even general guides.nipponster.gif

From my experiences searching deep into the Japan-related content online, this is one category that  has been “attempted” often. I say attempted because there are many sites that set out to teach Japanese or sites that set out to guide people through everyday life in Japan but how many actually cover the topic in depth?

Do you know of any comprehensive sites?

Are there any groups out there collaborating to create comprehensive ones?

My favorite Japanese language learning website is http://alljapaneseallthetime.com/blog

Thanks Thomas
That's a good one.

One site that I often search for interesting sites on Japan is Jim Breen's Japanese Page:
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/japanese.html

There are some great resources for language instruction and language tools on there.
There is a really good kanji learning program called speedanki (http://speedanki.com). It made me wonder why I bought those expensive tuttle kanji cards

again @ Thomas -

Wow! I just read AllJapaneseAllTheTime's about page. That is impressive! He makes learning Japanese sound easy.
I always try to think in Japanese. I try to talk to myself (in my head so I don't look crazy) in Japanese the way I normally would in English (when thinking).
