The statement was an official response to a question submitted by Ryuji Yamane, an opposition Democratic Party of Japan member. It was adopted at a Cabinet meeting
Yamane said in response to the question, ''It is an urgent task to conduct confirmation work, given incessant reports of UFO sightings as well as national concerns and interests.''
Should Japan's ASDF detect a UFO (if they existed) that is feared to violate
Japan's air space, the ASDF will scramble a fighter for visual confirmation. But, the government ''is not aware of cases where an unidentified flying object, believed to have flown from outside the Earth, was discovered, although there have been cases where birds and other objects beside aircraft were discovered.''
With regard to UFOs, the government ''is not collecting information or conducting research and has not considered any extraordinary steps in response if they ever fly to our country."
They aren't there, we have no records of any, we aren't looking, and if they did show up, there is no plan to do anything other than visually confirm their existence with a jet fighter.
Do you believe in UFOs?
I don't. No way they exist.
Ask me why.
