Tokyo Has Best Eats in the World Says Michelin Guide

The Michelin Guide says Tokyo is the best place to get good food.

I suppose it would depend on what you like.

I can surely find enough of what I like in Tokyo, though I prefer the countryside. There's this small soba restaurant that serves the best tempura you will find anywhere on the planet near Niigata station.

Still Michelin gave Tokyo 191 stars. The best Paris could do was 65.

Paris does have the most top rated restaurants with 10 establishments.michelin.guide.jpg

French food....where's the food?

Tokyo has some 160,000 restaurants. The inspectors, 3 European and 2 Japanese, went undercover at 1,500 of them.

Holy smokes...send me out to taste test 1,500 restaurants, please!

Three of the top eight restaurants in Tokyo served French food.

Am I the only one that thinks something is screwy here.

Japanese and French judges picking Tokyo and Paris as the best.

So far, the Michelin guide covers only 23 cities.

Food tastes are so subjective...how could anybody possibly say one place is better than the other?

I'll take mom's cooking.

How about you?

Okay, so where's the best tempura on the planet? Names please! My daughter lives in Niigata, and I'm sure she'd love to visit this soba shop!

Go out Niigata station toward Bandai and take an immediate left. Walk about a half mile and just past the cram school on the left you will find a tiny very greasy spoon looking and feeling soba shop. It's a soba shop, not a tempura shop. But the ebi tempura is amazing. They have big, very big, especially big and extremely specially big - chou toku dai. Sorry, I don't remember the name, but I can taste it from Northern CA. Only about 10-12 people can fit in the place at one time and there are signatures of baseball players and sumo wrestlers on the walls for when they come to Niigata. Where does your daughter live? Have her contact me and I'll see that she finds the place. It costs about y3500 fo the biggest shrimp...or are they really lobsters.
