Question # 50 - Are the hospitals modern if I must go in when teaching ESL in Japan?
Yep…nearly as modern as anything you can find in the West…think America which is second to none and twice as expensive as anywhere else in the world.
I had arthroscopic knee surgery and was in and out in a couple of days.
The Japanese are still careful like that…keeping a patient longer than they should, doing inpatient when outpatient will do…that sort of thing.
My wife had a kid when we were in the Navy. The baby was born on Sunday and
she and the baby came home on Monday.Three years later my second son was born in a Japanese hospital. They had to stay a week.
We did the Lamaze thing in the Navy…the Japanese asked, “What’s Lamaze?”![]()
The Japanese are just as competent but much more conservative I think when it comes to the hospitals.
But, all things considered, if I am going to be hospitalized, I’ll choose Japan for treatment (the nurses are prettier and more competent) America for facilities (the equipment and techniques are more advanced.)
Still it’s best to stay out of the hospital, no?
