Honda Motor Co will launch its Acura Brand of luxury cars in Russia next year...going after Russia's wealthy class in the big cities.
Honda wants to increase sales 6-fold from 2006 to 100,000 vehicles by 2010.
Behind China and India, Russia is one of the fastest growing markets in the world.
Honda will set up 10 dealerships in Russia's big cities, Moscow, St. Petersburg ...
The company hopes to sell:
1. RL luxury sedan (Legend),
2. MDX SUV and
3. TL midsize
The Acura line is not available in Japan yet...only North America, China and Mexico.
The Acura line will be introduced in Japan around 2010 due to sluggish domestic sales.
In Russia, Honda sales jumped 77% in 2006. They are up 120% for the first six months of this year.
Honda has 30 dealerships under the Honda name in Russia.
I took a ride in a Honda the other day....the guy's car had 296,000 miles on the odometer.
THAT figure will sell Hondas.
