Honda Motor Co. wants to sell its Honda Civic Hybrid in India starting next year.

India doesn't have an approval system for hybrid cars. When it does, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. will start importing the Honda Civics.
Because of high tariffs, the Civic Hybrid will cost twice as much in India as it does in Japan. The people in India make just a small
percentage - cost of living considered - of their Japanese counterparts.
Honda has just a 4% market share in India.
China will get the Civic Hybrid by the end of this year.
Toyota Motor already sells the Prius in China where it is produced...since Dec 2005. Last year Toyota sold 1,700 Priuses.
Japanese automakers are confident there are enough rich in India and China to make it worthwhile to market their hybrids to those countries.
