PHS service provider Willcom Inc and China Network Communications Group, China's second-largest fixed-lin telecommunications carrier, will forge a business alliance.
Hopes are to expand the PHS business to other Asian countries.
Willcom will:
1. provide China Network Communications with know-how on 'packet communications.'
2. sign a technology consulting agreement
3. send engineers as needed
The two companies will also accelerate efforts to provide roaming services before next year's Beijing Olympic Games.
Currently PHS communications in China are limited to telephone and email services but cannot connect to the Internet like it does in Japan.
CNC has about 30 million subscribers. Willcom has 4.65 million subscribers in Japan.
