Tokyo Tower vs New Tokyo Tower

by BBelew57 on September 23rd, 2007

The 333-meter Nippon Television City Corp. wants tol add 100 meters to the Tokyo Tower to keep it competitive with the 610-meter "New Tokyo Tower" and hopefully prevent TV broadcasters from switching to the taller transmitting tower being built in Sumida Ward.

It's estimated that it will cost about 4 billion yen to length of Tokyo Tower by 20 meters so that the structure can grow 100 meters in height. Kind of like a real tall guy needing bigger feet, I suppose.

The New Tokyo Tower will be the world's tallest structure when it begins operating in 2011.

Already, NHK and five commercial broadcasters are planning to move theirnew.tokyo.tower.jpg transmitting stations to the new tower when they shift from analog to terrestrial digital broadcasting.

Tokyo Tower has one huge obstacle to overcome….aviation restrictions that limit the tower's height.

The president of Nippon Television City thinks that can be overcome….

Can you say b-r-i-b-e?
