NEC Develops Portable DNA Analysis Device

by BBelew57 on September 25th, 2007

Great! Now we can test to see if the dead guy in the closet is grandpa without going to the lab…or know if that's really my kid ….or

NEC Corp. has created a portable compact device (Japan's motto -smallest is best) that will allow police to have a complete DNA analysis in about 25 minutes.

It's the first of its kind and will go into use next year by Japan's inept police.

The machine is 50cm x 20 cm x 40 cm.

Presently it takes from one - seven days to complete a DNA analysis AFTER police take the skin or other samples from a crime scene to a forensics lab and run itdna.analysis.jpg through various pieces of equipment.

Now, police can cut off a finger and do it straightaway.

Wait…that's the yakuza that does that?

Is smallest really best?

In this case it sounds pretty nifty.
