Market Share: Top 5 Menswear Makers in Japan

by BBelew57 on September 29th, 2007

Japanese men, or their wives, are buying more clothes..ties, suits and airconditioned shirts.

Domestic sales of menswear rose 1.2% to 2.8 trillion..the second consecutive year of gain.

The government's "Cool Biz" campaign that has encouraged workers since 2005 to wear casual clothing at the office during the summer to fight the global warming monster.

(How many ways can companies think of to make money off of a non existent

phenomenon?)

At any rate…middle-aged and older men started showing more interest in clothing.

The top five Menswear clothing makers:

Menswear

1  Onward Kashiyama 3.4  0.1
2  Sanyo Shokai 2.6
3  Renown 1.8  -0.1

5  World 1.4  0.1
Total domestic sales: 2.8 trillion yen (up 1.2%)
Sources: Nikkei estimates

In my 20 years in Japan, I NEVER bought one article of mens' clothing.

I am too big.

Wait…maybe I bought a sweat suit or two…Double O size, or something like that.

Where do you buy your clothes?
