Japanese - Polite or Not?
Having just written that even the Japanese can lose their polite character at Catherine Zeta-Jones Wows Japan…I came across another image that is much more characteristic of the people of Japan.
Japan's representatives on the national team at the 2007 Women's World Cup in China unfurled a banner to show their appreciation to China and to the spectators.
The banner is in Japanese, English Romanized characters and in Chinese.
Arigato is Japanese for 'Thank you/'![]()
The two middle characters are read 'xie xie' which is thank you in Chinese.
The Japanese had just lost the match to Germany…but still stopped to say thanks to the crowd.
That's the Japan I remember.
