Japanese Centenarians Tops 30,000

by BBelew57 on September 14th, 2007

The number of people in Japan who are over 100 years old has topped 30,000 for the first time says the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

Next Monday is Respect for the Aged Day in Japan.

At the end of this month, Japan will have 32.295 people over 100 years old…4,613 male and 27,682 female.

Looks like the old geezers won't have trouble finding a date.

The number of centenarians is 3.8 times what it was 10 years ago.

There are 3,900 more this year than last year.centenarian.japan.jpg

Japan has two married couples where both the husband and wife are over 100 years old.

The oldest male is 111-year old Tomoji Tanabe - 9/18/1895 DOB

The oldest woman is 113-year old Tsuneyo Toyonaga - 5/21/1894 DOB

Okinawans are the longest living of the Japanese.

Head south younguns, head south.

I'm half way there.

How about you?
