Hewlett-Packard (HP) Japan is offering a new service for data centers that will reduce energy costs.
HP installs low-power servers and optimizes the design and operation of air condition systems.
HP installed more than 300 blade servers and reconfigured the air conditioning system for chipmaker Renesas Technology Corp. resulting in a 30% power consumption save.
HP Japan used special simulation software to:
1. analyze air flow in the Renesas data center
2. determine the best layout of piping, wind volume, and structure of cold-air outlets,
3. optimize the cooling of the servers.
For data centers, keepin the servers cool can account for around 60% of their total energy costs.
Not many other companies in Japan offer such a service to data centers.
Is this a good way for HP to differentiate itself from other server manufacturers?
